It is time to take care of our body before the holiday season, but also to purify our body during this period of confinement.

Broths are excellent to purify the body, eliminate fluids, make us feel less swollen from the belly and broths are a little extra to lose the extra pounds.

It is time to take care of ourselves by eliminating substances harmful to our body with vegetable broths. Broths are perfect for fighting bloating and water retention.

And on top of that, it acts as an appetite suppressant.

How to prepare the broth to be effective :

In order for the broth to purify your body, we must keep in mind that we must have a light and balanced diet, in which fruits and vegetables abound.

I advise you to keep and take the broth at least once or twice a day (before lunch and dinner).

In this way, it satisfies and detoxifies you and at the same time facilitates digestion.

A nice recipe for broths :

For 1 liter of broth, you need :

  • 3 medium onions
  • 2 carrots
  • 1 leek
  • 1 stalk of celery
  • 1/2 turnip
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 liter of water

The recipe :

The first step is to cut all the vegetables and put them in cold water. They release all the nutrients and boil them for one hour on low heat and without salt. Each time you are going to make a soup or broth, don’t put salt until the end.

This facilitates the release of mineral salts from the vegetables to balance the lack of salt in the water. And so all the nutrients go to the cooking water. Remove all the vegetables to preserve them for other dishes (such as mashed potatoes, lasagna, moussaka, ratatouille…).

Filter the broth to remove all impurities. And once cold, keep it in the refrigerator or freeze it.

Vegetables to choose for the broth :

  • Celery is very diuretic and stimulates purification.
  • Onion, also a diuretic, helps reduce cholesterol, triglycerides and uric acid.

Another type of broth that I like:

Another very effective cleansing broth is julienne soup. Clean and finely chop two carrots, a celery stick, a potato, an onion and two cabbage leaves.

Bring to the boil for about 10 minutes, add two tablespoons of wholemeal semolina and cook for another five minutes.

It is a rich and cleansing soup because of its high potassium content.

Onion and oat soup :

Finely chop onion in a wok with olive oil. Then add boiling water and 100 g oat flakes. You can season it with oregano, nutmeg and a pinch of salt at the end.

This soup is rich in vitamin B, especially B1 to strengthen the nervous system.

Cabbage, carrot and potato soup :

Clean, wash and chop half a cabbage. Peel a few medium potatoes and four carrots. Wash them and cut them into cubes and slices. Bring to the boil for 10-12 minutes. Add the cabbage and more water if necessary, and cook for another 10 to 15 minutes. This is the soup that mom used to make me when I was little, so I keep good memories of it.

The most to know about vegetables :

Onion. It gives you magnesium, calcium, copper, iron, silicon and sulphur, as well as vitamins A, B, C and E, which improve the functioning of your kidneys and help you eliminate liquids and feel less swollen.
Carrot. It is rich in beta-carotene, a powerful antioxidant. And it strengthens your immune system and helps you fight viruses and infections. Perfect at the moment against the flu virus.
Celery. It is very diuretic, as it activates the movement of body fluids and helps improve the functioning of the liver, gallbladder and kidneys. In addition, it regulates intestinal transit. If you are among those who like its flavour, you can add more celery to the broth.
Laurel. It contains cineole and eugenol, which have the power to reduce acidity to facilitate digestion.
